The eyes, hands, and neck are the first areas of our body to show the signs of maturing. The eyes specifically have no oil glands and we are blinking constantly = muscle contractions throughout the day. If there is any side sleeping, fluid retention, eye rubbing, mascara removal tugging… Our eyes can take a beating. Here are my tips for caring for the skin around the eyes.
#1 Hydration & peptides – Keeping the skin around the eyes hydrated is essential to keep the tissue healthy and looking its best. The first product I recommend to clients starting early (20’s) is Cobra Eye Serum. Serums contain smaller molecules that can penetrate deeper into the skin and absorb quickly. This allows the serum to give you more benefits. Cobra Eye Serum contains oligopeptides which relax, soften and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. I’ve also seen this serum work well for puffiness too! Apply a small drop 2x a day. It can also be used on any other lines around the face. I use it around the mouth and between my brows.
When you get into your mid 30’s, 40’s and beyond, the skin around the eyes can become dry. This can cause concealer to make you look older than you are. We want to be careful to not apply too much creme as it can weigh down the tissue, but this is when we want to start layering Cobra Eye Serum with an eye creme. We love Mystiq Perfecting Eye Creme. Complete with multiple peptides, Mastiha and Orange Plant Stem Cells this all-in-one eye crème helps address dark circles, brightens skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness. Apply gently by dabbing with your ring fingers 2x a day. I like to apply after my moisturizer.
#SPF – It’s easy to miss applying SPF around your eyes, but it is so important to protect from sun damage and premature aging. Our Satin Dewey SPF is hydrating and non-irritating. When outside, I like to wear a hat also.
Retinal – Just like we exfoliate our faces, the skin around our eyes needs exfoliation too. But, because it’s so thin, it needs to be gentle. Pro Refining Eye Creme contains retinaldehyde, the most effective OTC retinal without the redness, inflammation and irritation of prescription retinals. This formula is also safe to use on the eyelid, which many are not! Start with 3 evenings a week and work your way up to using it every night after a few weeks.
Gua sha – For puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles gua sha is also a great tool. I always recommend starting at the temples and working your way in towards the under eye. If the temples (where lymphatic drainage happens) aren’t opened up, you’ll be trying to force fluid where it has no where to go. Watch my eye video here.
Microcurrent – Think of microccurent like pilates for your muscles. Small, quick, targeted electric pulsations of the muscles to help tighten and tone. Results build over time. The Eye Rejuvenator is an eye safe microccurent device that also combines heat therapy to help flush fluid and puffiness from the eye area. This can be used every day. Here’s how to use it.
